What’s New

Changes for 2020 Season

We will use playoffs for resolving ties for the ‘Win’. Playoff will begin on the 18th hole and if still tied will go to the 10th hole and keep repeating until there’s a winner. Hole handicaps will be used to determine the net winner.

Changes for 2019 Season

All golfers will play to their DOST index. We will not use slope adjustment for tournament handicap calculation.

All 2019 rules will be in effect. Please refer to the 2019 Rules section

Any golfer found breaking a rule intentionally will be DQ’ed for the tournament. A second such incident will result in suspension for the season.

Changes for 2017 Season

Any group not  finishing within course time (usually 4:30) or 20 minutes after the group in front will get penalized 2 strokes, each.

We are bringing back ‘Pakka’ Dost who will be responsible for scoring and pace of play

All Golfers with a handicap greater than 20 will have their Index adjusted by 10% to ensure competitiveness for any tournament.

Changes for 2016 Season

Lost Ball and O/B will be played according to USGA Rule. If lost of out of bounds, ball must be replayed from the original spot. If the ball goes O/B or is lost after the second try, then the player can drop from where it got lost/OB the second time. An additional stroke will be assessed.

As an example if a tee shot goes O/B then the player should re tee and will be hitting his/her third shot. If the third shot gets lost or OB then the player can take a drop from where his third shot got lost. He will effectively be hitting his 5th shot.

Rounds that are more than 2 years old will be dropped for handicap considerations. If a player has played less than 2 rounds in the last 2 years then he will be subject to “New Player Rule”. For example for 2016, scores from 2013 and older will not be considered for handicap purposes.

Changes for 2015 Season

Handicap

If you have played 10 or more tournaments, your handicap may not be capped.

New Player Rule

If you do not play at all in two calendar years in a DOST tournament then you will be subject to New Player Rule. You have the option of providing your new handicap before your first tournament, otherwise we will use whatever we have in our database.
e.g., If you do not play in 2013 and 2014, starting 2015 season you will be a “New” Player,

Injury Adjustment for handicap

Changes for 2014 Season

No more Pakka DOST

After two years of tournament golf we are confident that DOST golfers are more comfortable with the golf rules. Any on course rulings should be handled according to the consensus of the foursome. If there is still confusion, then we suggest playing two balls and recording two scores for the hole in question. After the round a ruling issue can be settled in the club house. All scoring conflicts will be settled according to USGA Rules.

Slow play

Even though USGA allows 5 minutes, please limit ball searches to 2 minutes only. After searching for 2 minutes take a drop with a penalty. If you are waiting for a group in front and have no place to go, then you might search up to 5 minutes.

Handicap Changes

Changes have been made to the handicap formula to make things slightly more lenient. The handicap for the course will now be calculated based on the well established formula of Course Handicap = Index x (Slope Rating of Tee on Course / 113). This is in line with USGA guidelines.
As an example for a handicap index of 14.12 and a course slope of 137, the calculation will be as follows
Old Way: 14.12*(137+113)/(113*2) = 15.61= 16
New Way: 14.12*(137)/(113) = 17.11 = 17
Please refer to the handicap section of the site for complete details

Expenses

$2 per person per round will be used towards Food and miscellaneous expenses. In the past expenses such as website maintenance fee have been covered by the management. These expenses are usually under $150 for the year. To have a sustainable model for our league this will be deducted from entry fees. If there is any leftover towards the end of the year then it will be applied towards the POY pot.

Changes for 2013 Season

  • Knuth Point system is no longer used
  • Winning score is no longer capped at -3
  • New Player Rule still applies through the first 2 tournaments. If a new player (first 2 tournaments) scores Net under par then he/she will be adjusted to ‘E’ven Par
  • Handicaps are calculated based on actual tournament scores and are adjusted based on the rating and slope of the course before the actual tournament. This does not apply to a new player through the first 3 tournaments. He will play at the pre determined handicap. For details on the new handicap rules please refer to the handicap section of the site
  • A new point system is used to determine player of the year (POY) award.
  • The system awards points as follows
    • 25 points per position up to TOP 10 players
    • 50 point increments up to top 3
    • 100 points up to second place
    • 200 point increase for the winner plus 500 Bonus Points
